Review: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Book: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Pages: 322 pages
Source: Bought with my own money
Rating: 5 Stars
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’'re most in danger. . . .Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—, the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—, make Lissa one of them forever.
Vampire Academy. I honestly thought it seemed cliche and boring (just from the cover!) before I read it and I was merely looking to pass the time while reading this book. Well, I sure learned my lesson about never judging a book by its cover... literally!

VA is such a fantastic read, and nothing cliche at all. This book was extremely captivating and I've never read anything like it. Moroi, dhampir, strigoi, all of this is just WOW. I can't even begin to explain on how good it was. Some strong points that captured me in this book is the plot and its writing. The plot is so creative and wonderful through all the twists and turns it leads you through. The writing flowed extremely well, and I didn't find it choppy or hard to understand. The characters were just amazing as well. The character who was my absolute favorite was Rose! Rose kicks ass (literally!) and she was so likable with her smart ass yet funny remarks. There was nothing in this book that disappointed me, especially in the romance department. Forbidden, hot, spicy love, baby! Need I say more? I devoured this book so easily in a day and a half, it was such a fun read! If you're looking for something with romance, action, and just plain awesomeness, I definitely recommend that you read this little (blood)sucker.
